Why I Chose Chile

Kun olin pieni ja päätin että haluan vaihtoon, ehdoton maavalintani oli Ranska. En edes tiedä mistä idea sai alkunsa, todennäköisesti vain mielikuvista joita mulla oli Pariisista ja Eiffel-tornista. Taustalla oli myös viehätykseni Ranskan kieleen, ja siihen että kieli ylipäätään olisi jokin muu kuin englanti.

When I was little and decided I wanted to become an exchange-student when I grew older, my first choice of country was France. I don't even know where the idea came from, most probably it was just the fantastic expectations I had for Paris and it's Eiffel-tower. I also quite fancied the sound of French and I wanted the language of my exchange-country to be something else than English.

                             
Aloittaessani maitten tutkimista, oli Ranska edelleen vaihtoehto, mutta ei kuitenkaan kovin pitkään sillä rajasin Euroopan maat pois (Espanjaa lukuunottamatta). Aloin etsiä tietoa Etelä-Amerikan eri maista ja rajasin kielen espanjaan. Siitä eteenpäin suljin maita pois erilaisilla kriteereillä.

As I started researching the potential countries, France was still an option, but not for very long, because I left out all the European countries (except Spain). I searched information about South American countries and cut down to only Spanish speaking countries. From then on I just left out more countries to reduce the number.

Lopulta mukana oli enää Argentiina, Espanja, Costa Rica ja Chile. Argentiinan otin pois sillä en syö punaista lihaa enkä siis halunnut mennä maahan joka on maailmalla kuuluisa parhaista pihveistään. Vaikka nyt tiedänkin vaihtarin joka oli kyseisessä maassa kasvissyöjänä, eikä asia ollut ongelma. Chileen ihastuin viikkojen kuluessa ja se sukeutui ykköseksi. Espanja ja Costa Rica pysyivät 2.-vaihtoehtoina.

Soon there was left only Argentina, Spain, Costa Rica and Chile. Argentina I cut out because I don't eat red meat and I didn't wan't to go to a country which is widely famous for it's wonderful steaks. Even though I know a vegetarian exchange-student who went to Argentina and all went well. As the weeks went by, I fell in love with Chile and it got the first place. Spain and Costa Rica stayed as back-up options.

                         
Kuulostaa selitettynä todella kylmältä tavalta luokitella kaikkia upeita maita, mutta mun tapauksessa se oli juuri se ongelma. Olisin halunnut mennä jokaiseen maahan, niitä oli pakko rajata poissulkemalla.

As I explain my methods like this, it sounds like such a cold and uninteresting way to categorize all these amazing and individual countries, but in my case, that was the biggest problem. I would've wanted to go on exchange to every single one of them.

             

Nyt "jälkeenpäin" (tein valinnat noin vuosi sitten) ajatellen tiedän tehneeni oikean valinnan. Opin Chilestä joka päivä jotakin uutta vaikken siellä vielä paikan päällä olekaan, ja ihastun maahan aina vain enemmän. Aika näyttää millaista tulee olemaan käytännössä, mutta toistaiseksi kaikki kuulostaa upealta.

Now as I think about my choice of country, I know I've made the right choice. Everyday I learn new things about Chile, even though I'm not there yet. I feel so connected and excited to soon be a part of the culture and life there. Only time will show how my exchange will go, but for now, everything sounds perfect.

The Very 1st

Ensimmäinen Postaus Ikinä (jota oon siis lykännyt nyt jo noin puoli vuotta). Parempi esittelypostaus tulee myöhemmin, alotan nyt vaan tällasella lyhyellä pikaesittelyllä ja parilla kuvalla.

The Very First Post (which I've been putting off for the past six months). A more detailed introduction is on it's way, but for now I'll just start with a quick one with a few pictures.

Moi kaikki! Oon Maaru, 16-vuotias tyttö Tampereelta. Lähden vuodeksi Chileen vaihto-oppilaaksi 2014-2015 AFS:n kautta. Vaihtoon lähtö on mulle tosi pitkä-aikainen unelma joka on siis nyt toteutumassa. Syistä maa-valintaan ja kaikkeen kerron myöhemmässä postauksessa sitten.

Hi everyone! My name is Maaru, a 16-year-old girl from Tampere, Finland. I'm going to be an exchange student in Chile 2014-2015, for a year, trough AFS. Going on an exchange is a long-standing dream of mine, which is now becoming reality. About the reasons for the choice of exchange-country and everythig I shall discuss in another post.



I don't know where I'm going but I know it's gonna be a log time. I'll be leaving in the morning (night, actually in my case, since I'll be leaving for South America from Finland) when the white wine bitter sunlight.

"I can't believe I did that!"
Instead of saying:
"I wish i did that..."

Kiitos ja kumarrus! Nyt se on tehty, eikä siinä ees mennyt niin kauaa... Tai ainakaan ei olisi mennyt jos osaisin käyttää bloggeria ja mun konetta. Seuraavasta tulee sitten jo toivottavasti erilainen, parempi ja enemmän asiaa!

Now it's finally done! It didn't even take so long... Or at least it wouldn't have taken if I'd know how to use blogger and my computer. The next one will hopefully be different, better and have more content. Way to go!
